Many strains are readily available, which not only differ morphologically, but also genetically, physiologically and behaviourally. Zebrafish (Danio rerio), a minnow-like freshwater fish, has emerged as a popular animal model for research and development. The antibodies were generated with BALB/c mice against adult zebrafish protein, and clones were selected based on the specific staining patterns obtained with particular clones. The hybridomas are stored at the Antibody Facility of the UO under the supervision of Dr. Mike Marusich. The Antibody Facility regenerates supernatants and provides them to the ZIRC upon request. Zebrafish is an emerging immune model used in areas ranging from drug testing to cancer research due to their striking genomic similarity to humans, regenerative abilities and shortened life cycle.
