Bach's Orchestral Suites (he called them Ouvertures) were composed in their present form during his Leipzig years, though Nos. 2 in B-minor and 4 in D, may originally have been composed earlier in Coethen.
THE determination of provenance of Bach's four orchestral suites has always been a particularly frustrating task, hampered by lack of evidence in the sources.
